Pretty Pink Pies by Karen

Photobucket

Guess what I cooked up last night? They are called "Pretty Pink Pies" and I found the recipe in this silly little cookbook I ordered out of one of the twins' fundraiser catalogs. It's called Silly Snacks- Family Fun in the Kitchen and it has all these awesome snack & desserts that you can make with (or for) your kids.

Anyway, we were going over to our friend's house for a bbq the other night and I had said I'd bring dessert, but when the time came I REALLY didn't want to turn on the oven to make cookies or cupcakes; it was just too hot. So I started flipping thru this little cookbook because I remembered it had lots of easy, non-baking things in it and came across these little pies. They just looked so yummy and refreshing..& they were! Here's the recipe -- I know you'll want to try them!

Pretty Pink Pies
Makes 6 servings

1 small ripe banana, sliced
1 package mini graham cracker crusts (6 crusts)
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup/ice cream topping
2 containers (6oz each) strawberry yogurt
6 mini marshmallows
6 fresh strawberries cut into wedges

1.       Place banana slices in each pie crust. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon chocolate syrup. Spoon yogurt over top.
2.       Place 1 marshmallow in the center of each pie. Arrange strawberry pieces around marshmallow to resemble flower. Serve immediately or cover & refrigerate up to 4 hours.

I did not measure out the chocolate syrup, I just eyeballed it and put what appeared to be a decent amount on top of the bananas. I also didn't "wedge" my strawberries, just quartered them, so its not as pretty but it worked. Oh, since I was making more than 6, I just bought a large container of strawberry yogurt, it's less expensive that way & yogurt never goes to waste in my house!

Honey Crust's Newest Addition

My blog, Honey Crust has got some very exciting news and I have been bursting with joy ever since I got the word. We have a new addition to our "team" -- I am a team now, 2 can make a team! My very talented, hilarious and witty, creative, brilliant and beautiful cousin, Karen will be joining the blogging world and contributing to my blog! I could not be more ecstatic about this as I (and many others) have been telling her for years that she should start her own blog.....oh what it would be like in the life of Karen!  And now she's mine -- AND YOURS TOO! You are going to absolutely love her!
We talked a bit about how her contributed posts will go and both thought a "Hey Jaclyn" version would be fun and go over great with our readers. Karen is constantly trying out new recipes and throwing her own spin on things. Just a few weeks ago her and her daughter even made BUTTER! (Love it!)

We don't have a specific day yet, so you'll just have to wake up in anticipation each morning "hoping" you'll have a Karen post!

Be sure to tell your friends - and make sure you "FOLLOW" us through your Facebook or Gmail accounts (Check out the right hand side of this blog)

Now on to her first post....

Good Morning Arizona Live Demo

This morning I had another wonderful opportunity to work in-studio doing a live television segment with Good Morning Arizona - Channel 3 News. The crew was awesome as usual and the morning only had a few hiccups like almost not being able to purchase dry ice for my ice cream and nearly burning down their studio (luckily only the camera guy noticed - and responded with "I've been telling them to get a fire extinguisher for years now" --- all the while not moving an inch to torch the flames in the microwave - (*mental note - remove any metal ribbon from dishes prior to turning the microwave on) But other than that it was a blast. Fast as always and never going by the script - I loved being able to chat about my book, about The Real Women of Philadelphia and about my parents Ice Cream Parlor.

Everyone LOVED the ice cream sandwiches as I laughed when they had ice cream literally dripping down their chins! Kaley O'Kelley said they get a lot of food demonstrations coming in and the entire staff rarely all agrees on the quality of the dishes - but she was amazed that everyone was raving about the ice cream sandwiches. She continued to say how delicious they were as she finished off her own sandwich!

What a great experience and I look forward to many more!

Here is the link to the demo if you didn't get a chance to see it live:
